¿Catholics in today¿s Italy. An agenda of hope for the future of the country¿, due to take place in Reggio Calabria (14-17 October 2010). It will start in the afternoon of Thursday 14th October at Teatro Comunale ¿Francesco Cilea¿ in Reggio Calabria with an opening address from H.E. Mgr. Vittorio Luigi Mondello, Archbishop of Reggio Calabria-Bova and President of the Bishops Conference of Calabria, the Mayor of Reggio Calabria, Giuseppe Raffa, the President of the Provincial Council, Giuseppe Morabito, the President of the Regional Council, Giuseppe Scopelliti, H.E. Mgr. Giuseppe Bertello, Apostolic Nuncio in Italy.
This will be followed by an introduction from H.E. Mgr. Arrigo Miglio, Bishop of Ivrea and President of the Scientific Committee and Organising Committee of the Social Weeks of Italian Catholics. ¿Logos and agape. Intelligence of faith and transformation of society¿ is the title of the Opening Address which will be held by H.E. Card. Angelo Bagnasco, Archbishop of Genoa and President of the Italian Bishops¿ Conference, in front of the over 1200 delegates coming over from all of the 227 Italian dioceses. ¿The process, the agenda and the current scenario¿ is the title of the speech that Luca Diotallevi, Deputy President of the Scientific Committee and Organising Committee of the Social Weeks of Italian Catholics, will give before the end of the first day of the meeting. ¿The theme of the 46th Social Week might sound different from those of the last few Social Weeks, but it came out almost naturally of the experience of the 45th Week, the one of the centenary about the Common Good Today. A work that comes from afar ¿Bishop Arrigo Miglio explains -. This theme actually aroused lots of interest and turned to be more topical and urgent than ever but it needs to be viewed from the perspective of some of the country¿s real problems. Hence the idea of working to propose an agenda of hope, not a standard one but one that would come from a reflection that would immediately involve many of those who are seriously committed to the common good of the country and to finding real ways to achieve it. The agenda ¿ the President of the Scientific Committee and Organising Committee of the Social Weeks of Italian Catholics goes on ¿ has some problems and does not claim it will find all solutions, especially political solutions. We would like instead, in the light of the Social Doctrine of the Church, to encourage and offer a contribution so that, as Benedict XVI writes in his Deus caritas est, «the needs of justice will become understandable and politically feasible»¿.
